Square End High Speed Steel End Mills
HSS square end mills remain a cost-effective, versatile choice for general-purpose milling, offering good toughness and shock resistance for a wide range of materials. Available in 2, 4, and 6 flute configurations, including center cutting, non-center cutting, heavy duty (HD), and metric sizes.
Center Cutting vs. Non-Center Cutting: Center cutting end mills can plunge directly into material like a drill. Non-center cutting tools cannot plunge and require a pre-drilled hole or a ramped/helical entry — check which style a job calls for before selecting a tool.
Flute Count: 2 flute end mills offer the best chip clearance for slotting and deep cuts. 4 and 6 flute versions provide a smoother finish and greater rigidity, better suited to profiling and finishing passes.
HD and Hand Orientation Options: Heavy duty (HD) versions offer added rigidity for more aggressive cuts. Left-hand-cut and right-hand-cut options (LHC/RHC) are available for specific machine setups and multi-spindle applications.
