While carbide is generally preferred for high-speed aluminum machining, HSS end mills remain a practical, lower-cost option for lighter aluminum work, prototyping, and shops running at more moderate spindle speeds. Available in 2 flute square end and 2 flute ball end profiles.
Why 2 Flute for Aluminum: Aluminum produces long, stringy chips that need to clear the flute quickly to avoid re-cutting and heat buildup. The open flute geometry of 2 flute tools provides the chip clearance aluminum machining requires, regardless of whether the tool is carbide or HSS.
