Cobalt rougher end mills feature a serrated cutting edge designed to break chips into smaller pieces during heavy material removal, allowing faster feed rates and higher metal removal rates than standard end mills. Available in coarse and fine pitch, in both square end and ball end profiles.

Coarse vs. Fine Pitch: Coarse pitch tools remove more material per pass and suit softer, gummier materials where chip evacuation is the priority. Fine pitch tools produce a finer chip and smoother resulting surface, better suited to harder alloys and semi-finish roughing.

Square End vs. Ball End: Square end roughers are the standard choice for flat-bottom pocketing and general roughing. Ball end roughers are used when the roughing pass needs to follow a contoured or 3D surface ahead of a finishing pass.

Cobalt Advantage: Cobalt's added heat resistance over standard HSS lets these roughers hold an edge longer at higher cutting speeds, making them well suited to tougher alloys and stainless steels in demanding roughing applications.
