We stock Carbide and HSS countersinks in Single Flute, Three Flute, Four Flute and Six Flute configurations. Chatter in countersinking comes from cutting edges entering and leaving the cut — the tool deflects as an edge engages and springs back as it exits. The two ways around it pull in opposite directions: a single flute cuts with one continuous edge so there is no load-and-release cycle, and it fits holes too small for a multi-flute tool; a six-flute design keeps at least two edges engaged at once and spreads the cutting force evenly around the tool, which is why six-flute countersinks are sold for chatter-free work. Either way, feed positively and let the tool cut rather than rub.
Carbide holds its edge longer in steel and stainless, while HSS remains an economical choice for general shop use. All countersinks are manufactured in the USA and typically ship the same day.
